Summary
Countryside was contracted by BDW to deliver a new pedestrian crossing point and central refuge island at Borden Lane, undertaken within a live highway environment. The works were carried out in accordance with approved traffic management arrangements and relevant highway authority permits.
The scope of works included the excavation and removal of existing footway construction, kerb lines and the existing refuge island. New kerbing was installed to form compliant dropped kerb crossings, followed by the installation of tactile paving in accordance with current accessibility standards.
A new refuge island was constructed, incorporating TMP bollards and concrete bollards positioned to provide protection for pedestrians waiting to cross. Drainage modifications were also undertaken, including the installation of a new road gully to relocate the existing drainage connection and maintain effective surface water runoff.
The works were completed with the application of new road markings, delivering a fully compliant pedestrian crossing arrangement designed to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility and traffic flow.
